This project is located at No.2, Qixian 3rd Rd., Yancheng Dist., Kaohsiung, near the Penglai area of Pier-2 Art Center. The site was originally a warehouse of the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Monopoly Bureau. Through adaptive reuse, the design explores new possibilities for revitalizing unused historic buildings.
As Kaohsiung transforms from an industrial port city into a cultural destination, Pier-2 has become an important creative district. However, the surrounding area still lacks green spaces and complete spatial connections. This project aims to reactivate the site and create a new cultural node.
“Green Reef Wharf” draws inspiration from warehouses standing like reefs along the harbor. By preserving the historic structures and introducing new programs, the design integrates exhibition spaces, dining areas, accommodation, ecological education, and public green spaces. The project reconnects the Pier-2 cultural corridor and provides a place for people to stay, interact, and relax.
