Liyu Lake was once a vibrant place of daily life and social interaction. Surrounded by mountains, its lakeside weaves water and fields into layered landscapes, where people walked and gathered, forming a public realm. With tourism-driven development, everyday life and public use gradually declined.
The legend of the “Seven Star Caves” persists, hidden in the terrain, suggesting a cultural order. Moving along paths and the lakeshore, views shift with topography, letting the landscape be reinterpreted through movement.
This project, located in a northeastern mountain hollow, uses elevation and open views without disturbing the terrain, allowing visitors to perceive the whole landscape before reaching the shore. Drawing from the caves’ imagery and visual axes, pathways and viewing platforms connect forest and lake. Through walking and turning, the design creates layered experiences, reconnecting landscape with everyday life.
