CHING CHIH YUAN SHOU-YIN

CHING CHIH YUAN SHOU-YIN

Many Gen Z individuals participate in family worship during holidays simply by following their elders, without truly understanding why they worship or what offerings are needed. As times change, we’ve created various divine figures and rituals, but younger generations are often unfamiliar with the specific gods their families honor or the reasons behind these practices.
To bridge this gap, we’ve designed a modern publication with fresh, non-traditional visuals and accessible content to help young people understand the meaning and method of worship—why we worship, and how to do it properly.
We also utilize the increasingly popular incense tower as the core of our design. As a new alternative to traditional food offerings, incense towers are used to pray for peace and blessings. They allow people to express sincerity while avoiding food waste, aligning with modern values like sustainability and eco-consciousness. With modern aesthetics, we’ve reimagined the incense tower’s packaging to present a product that respects tradition yet embraces contemporary style.
Through innovative design, symbolic storytelling, interactive experiences, and modern communication platforms, we aim to both preserve and revitalize this cultural tradition—making it engaging and meaningful for the younger generation.
In many households, it's customary to prepare two chicken leg bento boxes to offer to the Earth God (Dijizhu). Inspired by this, we’ve designed our incense tower packaging in the shape of a bento box. Inside, smaller boxes can be used directly as offering plates, and include concise guides about which gods to worship, why they are worshipped, and what to prepare.
Our project name, “CHING CHIH YUAN SHOU-YIN,” is a playful twist on a familiar phrase—symbolizing our support in helping beings from the other world receive offerings like paper money, incense, and food, while also supporting the continuation of worship traditions in a way that resonates with the present.
