Silhouette Theater

"Silhouette Theater" is an interactive tool for innovating and passing down hand shadow play. Centered around hand shadow puppetry and using Taiwanese folktales as the narrative medium, it creates an engaging experience for children through interactive storytelling while introducing a new way to showcase hand shadow performances. While enjoying the stories, users can learn hand shadow techniques through interaction, participate in story development, and gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's local culture and traditional tales, enhancing their sense of engagement and immersion.

The story follows a pair of twins and a shadow puppy on a journey to restore the shadow world. Guided by the shadow puppy, they use the power of hand shadows to gradually repair Taiwanese place-name legends that have been fragmented due to being forgotten, learning to restore story chapters through hand shadow play. The stories include the Legend of Sanxiantai, where the Three Immortals have a dispute with the Dragon King of the East Sea, teaching the importance of rational communication and reconciliation. Another tale, The Legend of Turtle Island, tells of Princess Kavalan and the Turtle General resisting the Dragon King of the East Sea, conveying the value that everyone has the freedom to choose.

After restoring the stories, the twins will bring the inherited legends back to the real world, continuing Taiwan's cultural memory and folklore.
