The Birds are Here.

A Nest Box for Russet Sparrows: Blending Art and Conservation

This nest box uses visual storytelling to raise awareness about Russet Sparrow conservation, cleverly merging the shapes of an acorn and a sparrow to symbolize life and coexistence with nature. Crafted from locally sourced Cryptomeria japonica, the wood is precisely cut with CNC machining to achieve smooth lines and a warm texture. A mortise-and-tenon structure simplifies assembly, allowing participants to build their own nest box and paint the roof, infusing conservation efforts with personal creativity and emotion.

The “Bird Home” logo represents the close connection between Russet Sparrows and nature: a “tree-trunk hand” supports the sparrows’ shelter while reaching out to protect them, symbolizing the role people play in safeguarding these birds through the nest box initiative. The logo’s signature color is inspired by the male Russet Sparrow’s vivid chestnut-red plumage, intensified to capture attention and raise awareness of this endangered species.

Soft colors and smooth, rounded shapes help the nest box blend seamlessly into its natural surroundings, enhancing bird safety through better concealment. Additionally, a built-in camera records the sparrows’ daily lives in real time, bringing the beauty of conservation to light. This nest box is more than a shelter — it’s a symbol of conservation, evoking a sense of connection with nature through its form, color, and participatory experience. It transforms conservation into a visible, tangible, and sustainable action.
