“New Birth - Transforming Local Culture and Agricultural Value”

“New Birth - Transforming Local Culture and Agricultural Value”

The countryside was once the foundation of people’s lives, carrying the memory of the land and the wisdom passed down through generations. It was a place where communities thrived through agriculture, and people lived in harmony with nature. However, despite their hard work, farmers still rely on the unpredictability of the weather for their livelihoods, making their income unstable and often insufficient. As modern industries and urbanization continue to expand, young people are increasingly leaving rural villages in search of better economic opportunities, causing local development to lose momentum. This raises a crucial question: What does the future hold for rural communities like Jingliao?

In recent years, Jingliao has gained attention through films and TV series such as Let It Be and The Making of an Ordinary Woman. These productions have shed light on the lives, struggles, and resilience of rural communities, sparking renewed interest in their stories and creating opportunities for transformation. With this wave of attention, tourism has flourished, bringing in visitors eager to experience the charm of the countryside. As a result, commercial areas have begun to develop, and local culture, along with handicraft industries, has attempted to leverage this growing interest to revitalize the local economy.

However, this shift has also given rise to new challenges. Many of the commercial activities and businesses that have emerged are largely dominated by entrepreneurs from outside the region, while local youth participation remains limited. Consequently, the economic benefits generated by tourism often fail to circulate within the community, making the village’s economy heavily dependent on short-term tourism rather than fostering a sustainable, long-term development model. Without a strong foundation built on local participation and investment, there is a risk that the transformation driven by tourism may become superficial, failing to address the deeper issues of rural revitalization.

At its core, the true strength of this land lies in its local culture and agriculture. These elements are not just remnants of the past but the very identity and foundation upon which a sustainable future can be built. That is why my concept seeks to provide visitors with an immersive experience—allowing them to step into the daily lives of Jingliao residents and truly understand what it means to live and work in this environment. By engaging with local life firstha..
