According to national statistics, the proportion of people with hearing impairments is gradually increasing due to changes in modern listening habits. Among those aged 65 and above, the rate has reached as high as 70%. This indicates that as we age, everyone may face the issue of hearing loss.
Our design is dedicated to creating an accessible living experience. Through vibration tiles, we use visual and tactile cues to compensate for the lack of auditory perception, ensuring that pedestrians can walk safely regardless of their ability to hear or see.
Since individuals with hearing impairments cannot rely on auditory perception to sense their surroundings, other senses must provide warnings. Visual and tactile cues are intuitive and effective alert methods, and vibration has been widely applied in many products and studies designed for people with hearing impairments. Therefore, this design utilizes dynamic lighting and directional vibrations as a warning mechanism, allowing users to clearly perceive the direction of approaching vehicles.
Piezoelectric sheets are materials that can convert vibrations into signals and electrical energy. When applied to this product, they not only detect vehicle vibrations and transmit signals to the tiles pedestrians step on but also convert the kinetic energy of vehicles into electricity to power the system.
The vibration tiles are divided into two types, installed in different locations to work together:
Metal structure tiles – Installed on the roadway, responsible for detecting vehicle vibrations and converting kinetic energy into electricity.
Solid vibration tiles – Placed on the sidewalk to transmit directional lighting and vibrations, alerting pedestrians to the direction of approaching vehicles.
