Gloash 香灰再造燈具

燒香文化為臺灣重要的民俗信仰，然而儀式後產生的香灰多被視為廢棄物而未被有效利用。本研究以「香灰再造」為核心，與新北石碇伏虎宮合作，選用其祭祀後之香灰作為主要材料來源，回應過往集中丟棄的處理方式，重新轉譯其文化價值。延續過去香灰作為護身與療癒象徵的意涵，本設計嘗試以現代形式保存其精神內涵。
透過材料實驗，開發出具穩定性、可塑性與柔和透光特性的香灰紙，並依不同比例的香灰與膠合材料，建立多樣纖維質地與色階變化，如同色票般的材料資料庫，形塑從文化來源到設計應用的再利用系統，使傳統信仰資源轉化為可操作的當代媒材。
在製程上，進一步加入香腳纖維作為複合材料，並利用其外層顏料於水中自然釋放的特性，使色彩隨紙漿流動與纖維分布產生滲透與沉積，形成具隨機性與層次感的染色紋理。此一過程並非附加裝飾，而是源自祭祀行為的物質轉化，將手持香腳所留下的染色經驗轉譯為材料語言，使無形的身體記憶轉化為可長期保存的視覺表現。
最終，本設計將短暫且無形的信仰經驗轉化為可被感知與使用的日常物件，使香灰與香腳由宗教副產物轉變為承載文化與情感的工藝媒材，回應永續再利用與文化轉譯之設計價值。

Gloash Recycled Incense Ash Lighting

Incense burning is central to Taiwanese folk belief, yet the resulting ash is often discarded. This project, based on “ash regeneration,” collaborates with Fuhu Temple to reuse post-ritual incense ash as its primary material, reinterpreting its cultural value in a contemporary context.
Through experimentation, a translucent and stable incense-ash paper is developed, with varied textures and tonal gradations formed by adjusting material ratios. Incense stick fibers are integrated into the pulp, allowing natural pigments to diffuse and create layered, organic patterns, translating ritual staining into a material language.
The design transforms ephemeral ritual remnants into tangible objects, redefining incense ash as a craft material that carries cultural memory while addressing sustainability.
