Design Concept: Redefining Freedom in Over-Ear Headphones
As wearables become ubiquitous, customizable accessories like interchangeable watch straps and modular cases have flourished. These allow users to redefine their tech's appearance, establishing personal ownership. However, over-ear headphones remain stagnant, offering limited opportunities for user-driven customization.
Modern society seeks "micro-customizations" to balance group belonging and individual uniqueness. Examples like custom-painted helmets or charms for clogs prove that users value standing out without altering an object's core utility.
"Freedom" is our core design vocabulary. However, true freedom requires limitation to avoid aesthetic chaos. This study provides innovative solutions by standardizing the product’s core while maximizing the visual impact of interchangeable accessories, allowing users to reflect their personal style without compromising device integrity.
