As We Remember, As If First Seen
Linyuan Theater in Kaohsiung was once a lively commercial hub. Originally a cinema, it later became a textile factory and eventually a traditional market, while its upper floors fell into disuse.
As the market declined, the building lost both vitality and the memories it held
Titled “Recollecting, As If First Seen Again,” this project reimagines the space as more than a marketplace—transforming it into a platform for memory, culture, and community
Focusing on memory continuation, spatial connection, and revitalization, the design preserves the market’s texture while adding exhibition, cultural, and public spaces with greenery to reconnect generations
The ground floor improves circulation and openness, the second floor becomes a shared cultural space, and vertical connections create layered areas for interaction
Rather than merely renovating the project invites people to rediscover familiar memories, allowing local life and culture to continue and evolve
