Hakka indigo dyeing is a centuries-old craft, yet its traditions are fading with time. To integrate this heritage into everyday life, we developed a crayon that allows children to experience indigo dyeing through hands-on creation. Using plant-based pigments sourced from the same materials as traditional dyes, each stroke carries the essence of history. Unlike static exhibitions, this tool transforms cultural learning into an interactive experience. As users draw, the crayon gradually melts in their hands, mirroring the erosion of tradition over time. This fleeting moment deepens appreciation for the craft’s significance. Made from natural wax and sustainable pigments, the crayons replicate the layered textures of dyed fabrics. Beyond a drawing tool, they serve as a bridge for cultural preservation, ideal for schools, creative workshops, and exhibitions. By merging tradition with innovation, this design revives fading artistry, making heritage a tangible part of modern life.
