The Fu-shan Machinery Factory, located near Taichung Railway Station, is an abandoned concrete-and-brick industrial site left unused for over 50 years. The project responds to the surrounding urban fabric and collective memory, rethinking its formerly enclosed condition.
By transforming existing boundaries into layered transitional interfaces, the design allows urban activities to permeate the site. Visual corridors and continuous circulation reconnect it with nearby streets and green spaces, redefining it as an active node within the urban network.
Emphasizing flexibility and adaptability, the space accommodates diverse uses over time. Preserved industrial elements coexist with new interventions, forming a dialogue between past and present. Ultimately, the site becomes a permeable, open, and sustainable urban public realm.
