This work centers on a sea turtle, using a ceramic vase to address marine pollution. The turtle symbolizes ocean life and its fragile balance, while its body, entangled in plastic waste, reflects the harm caused by human activity. Marine debris such as plastic bags, fishing nets, and bottles is recreated in ceramic form, with detailed textures that evoke discomfort and highlight the severity of pollution.
The vase is both functional and symbolic. The growth of plants contrasts with the turtle’s trapped state, suggesting life’s persistence even in adversity. The material qualities of ceramic further echo environmental damage and fragility. Through this work, the artist aims to raise awareness of marine pollution and encourage more sustainable use of plastics.
