This project transforms Kaohsiung’s Cao Gong Canal into a waterside park and story center, letting residents engage with the canal and appreciate its ecological and cultural value. With a long history reflecting local agriculture and urban change, the intact ecosystem supports public education and ecological interaction. The Canal Story Center showcases the canal’s history and ecology, connecting agricultural heritage, urban culture, and daily life. The site integrates recreational spaces and educational exhibits, with rooftop rainwater collection for interactive water experiences. Collected water flows to a central outdoor pool, serving as a temporary flood reservoir during heavy rain and enhancing microclimate and urban resilience.Guided by water accessibility, sustainability, coexistence, and cultural heritage, the design lets residents connect with the canal, participate in ecological preservation, and experience cultural learning, making the park both recreational and educational.
