細妹仔(seˇmoiˇer) in Hakka refers to a girl, and we want to convey two layers of meaning through this term.
The first layer represents how we, having left our hometowns to study and work in foreign places, go through a cycle where we become so busy that we neglect our elders back home. After they pass away, we regret our indifference and busyness, and with a newfound awareness, we try to cherish the people around us. However, due to the demands of our busy lives and work, we end up repeating the same mistakes over and over again.
The second layer expresses how, in today’s culture, Hakka, compared to Taiwanese and Indigenous languages, is often overlooked and undervalued, slowly being assimilated and forgotten. However, as a child of the Hakka community, I feel it is my duty to preserve this precious language and culture.
In the music video (MV), we also depict the passing of a loved one and the return home for a funeral, revisiting joyful memories from the past while facing the harsh realities of life and ongoing changes. The color tones in the video are used to contrast the present with the past, emphasizing the protagonist's emotional journey and inner conflict.
