In Taiwan, language is more than just a tool for communication—it is a subtle psychological game.
Taiwanese often use phrases like “Let’s keep in touch next time” to brush off uncertain invitations. These words may seem simple on the surface, but they carry hidden meanings.
Those who understand will catch the unspoken message, while those who don’t remain in the dark. Behind these phrases lies the unique nuance and indirectness deeply embedded in Taiwanese culture.
Through humorous and engaging dynamic posters and interactive designs, we make these hidden dialogues visible, tangible, and relatable. By visualizing the true meanings behind everyday conversations, we invite each viewer to decode the unspoken rules of Taiwanese communication.
We have designed three interactive experiences that allow participants to immerse themselves in the subtle undertones of language:
🔹 Message Decoder – Type your interpretation of a phrase, and a "true meaning" message box will drop onto the screen, revealing the unspoken thoughts behind the words.
🔹 Microphone Translator – Speak out a phrase with hidden intent, and the Confession Room will instantly translate it into its direct, unfiltered meaning, exposing the underlying subtext.
🔹 Click to Reveal – We have curated some of the most common indirect expressions used in Taiwan and transformed them into dynamic posters. With just a click, viewers can uncover the true implications behind these words.
Language is not just a tool—it is a cultural mirror.
Through the Subtext series, we aim to break the boundary between spoken words and true intentions, inviting audiences to explore the art of indirect communication in Taiwan.
