A Poem for Taitung

A Poem for Taitung

This is a literary and spatial experiment blooming between ruins and nature, where poetry intertwines with place to respond to the temporal shifts and cultural imprints of Taitung’s coastline. The project is rooted in the transformation of ruins, merging natural landscapes with the act of writing, in an attempt to find resonance between disappearance and preservation, space, memory, and poetic expression.

The site is a former artist’s retreat, now covered in street graffiti, engaging in dialogue with the poetic sanctuary of the Coastal Mountain Range. It seeks to create not merely a physical space but a fluid poetic realm of consciousness. Through the contrasts of openness and enclosure, transience and permanence, the design shapes a sanctuary where one can pause, write, read, and engage in meaningful exchanges.

This project aims to let poetry exist beyond words, permeating space and experience. Driftwood, weathered walls, and embedded writing installations together construct a readable and perceptible poetic environment. The ebb and flow of the tide and the whispers of the mountain winds are no longer mere backdrops but integral elements of the site’s narrative. Those who wander within this "Bay Within the Bay" will, through their own perceptions and creations, respond to the memory and future of this land.
