Mental Health Rehabilitation Center: A Sanctuary for Mind and Soul
In today's rapidly advancing society, awareness and acceptance of mental health issues in Taiwan have gradually increased. However, compared to the well-established support systems and comprehensive perspectives found in other countries, Taiwan still has significant room for improvement. Over the past decade, factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic downturns, and lingering traditional mindsets have led to a continuous rise in diagnosed mental health cases.
In response to this, we aspire to design a sanctuary for mental and emotional well-being, providing individuals with a space to relax, take a breather, and embark on a journey of self-discovery.
Concept and Purpose
The Mental Health Rehabilitation Center is a collaborative creation by architects and psychological counselors, designed as a haven for individuals struggling with mental health challenges. When patients find themselves overwhelmed and lacking an outlet for self-expression or healing, counselors may recommend them to stay at this center. Through spatial design and curated activities, visitors can find solace and inner peace.
Based on the issues we have explored, our goal is to establish a new type of space that is not strictly a professional medical facility but serves to address key aspects of mental well-being. At the core of our design is wooden architecture, chosen for its warmth and inviting nature. Visually, wood evokes a sense of warmth, while emotionally, it offers a sense of softness and acceptance, fostering self-compassion and aiding in psychological healing.
