In My Eyes

有感於身旁罹患失智症的親人罹病後的改變，以及身為失智症患者的家屬在與之相處上的心態變化，進而去了解到普遍大眾對於失智症並沒有較完善的認知，最常見的就是，當長輩有忘記自己是否做過什麼事、想不起某些事件時等狀況時，只會被當作是年紀大了忘性比較強，而到真的讓人發現不對勁的時候，已經錯過黃金治療期了。因此我們選用失智症中盛行率排行第二位的路易氏體失智症為主題，以其不僅有著阿茲海默和帕金森氏症所擁有的病徵，以及它獨有的“視幻覺”病徵的特性作為本次研究核心，並以故事書創作結合帽飾設計的方式做呈現，希望能讓觀者在觀賞時能藉由圖文導覽的方式與作品產生共鳴，也期許人們看完後不只是認識路易氏體失智症，也能對於失智症這塊領域產生想去了解的興趣。而將主題名稱取做“In My Eyes”是因為，我們在故事中創造了路易夫婦這對角色，而在故事中分別會用身為“病患”的奶奶與擔任“最親近之人(照顧者)”的爺爺視角，來訴說這個疾病進到他們的生活中所帶來的影響與變化。

In My Eyes

In response to the changes in my family members who have been diagnosed with dementia and the attitude changes of caregivers towards them, I came to understand that the general public does not have a thorough understanding of dementia. The most common misconception is that when elderly people forget whether they have done something or cannot recall certain events, they are simply forgetful due to their old age. However, by the time people realize that something is wrong, they may have missed the golden period for treatment.
Therefore, we chose to focus on the second most prevalent form of dementia, Lewy body dementia, which shares symptoms with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, as well as its unique characteristic of visual hallucinations. We created a storybook with hat designs as a way to present our research and to evoke a sense of resonance with viewers. Our hope is that people who see this work will not only become familiar with Lewy body dementia, but also develop an interest in learning more about the field of dementia.
We named our project "In My Eyes" because we created a couple named Louis and his wife in the story. From the perspectives of both the "patient" grandmother and the "closest caregiver" grandfather, we tell the story of the impact and changes that this disease brings to their lives.
